ABOUT

Angeleno Karate teaches Soo Bahk Doo of the Moo Duk Kwan school, a hard-style* Korean martial art that elevates discipline and technical mastery.

In 1945 the Moo Duk Kwan was founded by Hwang Kee and rapidly became influencial in international martial arts. Though the off-shoot started by Chuck Norris, American Tang Soo Do, may be more widely known in the United States, they also find their origin in the Moo Duk Kwon, since Master Norris was trained by Founder Hwang Kee.

Those familiar with Tae Kwon Do will find Soo Bahk Do very accessable, but those with zero experience with martial arts (or possibly any kind of physical workout) will still find it approachable, exhillerating, and fun. The instructional style makes it so students of all levels can join in immediately to experience physical, mental, and emotional improvement.

In-person classes are taught by Jo Kyo Nim Andy Wright, 2nd Degree Black Belt, and virtual classes are taught via Zoom by his instructor Sa Bom Nim Damon Kenyon, 8th Degree Black Belt.

*hard-style refers to a martial art that focuses more on strikes, as opposed to arts that focus more on grapples and throws (though Soo Bak Do also includes these to a lesser degree).
